REFLECTIVE NARRATIVE
The course mentioned before fullfied MLO4. MLO 4 provided me relevant information about culture, history and art of Asian cultures. The HCOM 322 class provided me information to better understand social and political problems in Asian cultures. We analyzed different movies and readings based in different events that occurred in Asian countries and the United States. First, I learned about the Japanese internment camps in the United States and how they affected the Japanese community. Additionally, we talked about the No-no boys who were Japanese men that kept loyalty to Japan and refused be part of the United States Army. Another, great topics I learned in this class was about Chinese drama movies and the Vietnam War. On another hand, this class was really helpful to expand my knowledge and introduced me to a new culture besides Hispanic cultures. I had the opportunity to learn about different social problems while I was learning about the Asian culture. For example: we talked about the discrimination suffered by many Asian people in the United States, the stereotypes that people of other cultures have about Asian people and the different wars that affected the stability of people living in Asian countries. Also, I was able to connect Asian cultures with Hispanic cultures and how they have been involved in political and social problems. However, I had the opportunity to learn about Asian art and traditions which were very different from Hispanic. As evidence of my learning process in this class, I provided two PowerPoint presentations. One is about a movie named M. Butterfly and the other is about a book named No-No Boys. Both PowerPoint showed different social problems Asian people faced. To conclude, MLO 4 provided me rich knowledge about history, art, culture, politics and history of Asian cultures.
