COURSE NARRATIVE
The SPAN 301S class fulfilled MLO 1. This class provided me the opportunity to work at the Middle School level with children and teachers. Also, I practice my language skills by using Spanish in the class setting. In addition, Dr. Urioste provided us readings and poetry of Chicano literature that main topic was immigration. One of the readings I enjoyed to read was The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande. This book was amazing because it talks about the many challenges immigrants face in the United States and how it affects their families. In this class, we also had to write reflections about our Community Service and about our experiences with literacy in Spanish and English (SPAN 301S: Short Reflection). Furthermore, we had productive class discussions because everyone shared their personal experiences and talked about their Community Service. Additionally, we analyzed short readings and poetry provided in the class in groups or as a class. At the end of the semester, everyone talked about the site we worked at and the people we helped. In conclusion, this class was really helpful for me because I had the opportunity to interact with people of the community, learn about Chicano literature and practice my language skills in Spanish.
The document at your right is a short reflection of my SPAN 301S class. It is about my literacy experiences in Mexico and the United States.
