REFLECTIVE NARRATIVE
All the courses mentioned before fullfied MLO 3. MLO 3 provided me fundamental knowledge about history, literature, culture and art of Hispanic countries. Also, It helped me improve my writing, reading, listening and speaking skills. The courses that integrate MLO 3 helped me gain knowledge about different topics. In SPAN 307, I had the opportunity to learn about Mexico’s history, politics, culture and art. First, I learned about the Pre-Columbian civilizations of Mexico including their art, architecture, social structure and principal activities for living. Additionally, I gain knowledge about the Spanish conquest, Mexico’s Independence movement, Mexican- American War, etc. For this class, we had a short writing assignment that was about the meaning of being Mexican (SPAN 307: Short Essay). Also, class discussions helped me to better understand the conflicts Mexican society faced on different time periods. In SPAN 306, I learned about history and cultures of Latin America. Furthermore, I learned new vocabulary words that improved my writing and language skills. In this class we talked about the different Pre -Columbian civilizations settled in Latin America. Later, we talked about the different independence movements in Latin America and the consequences of them in each country. Also, we had in class debates that helped me to better understand the topics of each section and share my ideas. In SPAN 304, I had the opportunity to learn about Hispanic narratives, poetry and teather. Also, I gained knowledge of important writers such as Santa Teresa de Jesús, Carlos Fuentes, Pablo Neruda, Rosario Ferré, etc. Additionally, I studied the different literary movements such us Realism, Naturalism, Modernism, etc. For this class, my team and I did a PowerPoint presentation about the Mysticism which is a literary movement (SPAN 304 PowerPoint). Also, I learned how to identify rhetorical figures and tropes on poetry and narratives. I enjoyed in class discussions because everyone shared their ideas and their understanding of the readings. Additionally, we had small group presentations about the narratives, poetry and literary movements we read in class. In SPAN 322, I had the opportunity to learn about Hispanic literature, culture, social issues, history and important writers of Latin American and the Caribbean.
